Christian Unity?
Of all the fundamentals of the faith shouldn't being filled with the Holy Spirit be first and foremost? If so is the Church obligated to cut off or disassociate themselves with those believers who are living in sin by not being filled with the Holy Spirit? Are we to push them out of the fellowship of believers?
How is it that we can associate ourselves with non-believers in earthly matters such as making a living, (employment, grocery store, gas station, auto repair shop, medical doctors, hospitals, news papers, magazines, mail service, garbage pickup etc….)and are able to develop the free enterprise system that the whole world is envious of. And yet we disassociate ourselves with weaker believers in Christ when preserving our nations heritage, praise and worshiping our Creator, and helping others come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
There are two Christian neighbors that find yet another neighbors house is on fire with the occupants trapped inside. Today's believers are being compelled to first take into account their associations and differences and then determine from that whether they will work together to save their neighbor and his family or not. I should hope they would realize they have one rather urgent and common goal. Urgent enough to put all other differences aside for the moment.
There are minority groups that are a fraction of the size of the body of believers that have more influence for their cause because of their uniting on just what they have in common.
Believers and nonbelievers alike have joined hands on the battle field to defend the freedoms which they have in common. They came from different social economic conditions, religious back grounds, cultural environments, levels of education etc. Soldiers united on the battle field and went their own way afterward. They maintained their differences especially those they were well rooted in.
When calling for Unity I do not ask that any doctrinal teaching be abolished for I maintain my own persuasion in such matters. I will not concede to opposing doctrines being preached or taught at my local church that was formed to maintain such positions. However, I believe that Christians can unite on other fronts that we have in common and maintain our teaching on doctrinal particulars in our local assembly.
United we stand, divided we fall. Satan's plan is clear, divide and conquer.
Who should Christians fellowship with? 1 John 1:3 "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
